When flat folders aren't enough

A single level of folders works fine for casual organization โ€” Work, Personal, Research. But the moment you manage several clients, run multiple parallel projects, or split a topic into sub-themes (e.g. Machine Learning โ€บ Papers vs. Experiments), a flat list starts feeling cramped again. Subfolders let you build a proper hierarchy without inventing weird folder-naming schemes.

How subfolders work

Inside any folder you can create a subfolder. Each subfolder is fully independent โ€” it has its own color, its own set of chats, and shows up nested under its parent in the sidebar panel. You can collapse and expand subfolder branches, and there's no hard limit on nesting depth.

Example structures

  • Work โ€บ Client A โ€บ Q1 Campaign / Q2 Campaign
  • Research โ€บ Machine Learning โ€บ Papers / Experiments / Notes
  • Personal โ€บ Health / Finance / Learning / Travel
  • Freelance โ€บ Project X โ€บ Briefs / Drafts / Feedback / Final
  • Studies โ€บ Semester 1 โ€บ Math / Physics / History

Frequently asked questions

Is there a limit on how many subfolders I can create?

No. You can create as deep a hierarchy as you need โ€” three, four, five levels deep. The UI keeps it readable with collapsible branches.

Are subfolders available on the free plan?

Subfolders are a Pro feature. The free plan supports unlimited top-level folders, which is enough for most users โ€” but if you manage multiple complex projects, Pro pays for itself fast.
